Preserving a Large Catalogue of Songs

The Tim Gallant Anthology series is a budget-priced set of CD-Rs (and digital downloads) covering the best of what I have written over the years. During the years 1983-1989, I wrote 80-100 songs a year, eventually climbing to somewhere one thousand in total.

In recent years, I realized that I needed to do something to preserve this heritage, and the sheer quantity meant that fully-developed studio albums to cover all the worthwhile songs just was not realistic. So I began to do quick recordings of the best of the material I had written over the years.

When I say "quick recordings," I should make clear what I do and do not mean. These are not one-take unaccompanied tracks. Each song has full instrumentation and arranging. But there are flaws to be found here and there; a few mistakes are left in, and I never spent hours and hours pursuing the perfect arrangement. (In general, each of these songs took anywhere from three to five hours to put together for these recordings.)

To date, the following are available:

  • Volume 1: The Early Years (Best of 1980-1983)
  • Volume 2: The Best of 1984
  • Volume 3: The Best of 1985

When complete, I expect to add the following volumes:

  • Volume 4: The Best of 1986
  • Volume 5: The Best of 1987
  • Volume 6: The Best of 1988
  • Volume 7: The Best of 1989
  • Volume 8: The Artist as a Young Man (1990-1996)
  • Volume 9: Seminary Era (1997-2000)
  • Volume 10: The Love Collection

The above list is subject to change - more likely in the direction of additional volumes, rather than less. And of course, the quirky titles may get altered too. :)
